Continuing Education for Africa (CEFA) is a Section 21 Not-for-Profit Company, accredited by the HWSETA as a Training Provider. Established in 2004 in Wellington, CEFA opened their Northern Cape Branch in Upington in May 2009.

In response to many enquiries from the public, CEFA decided to present a Social Auxiliary Work (SAW) training course in Upington for individuals who wish to enrol. The first group of learners registered on 26 July 2011. These learners came from as far as De Aar, Britztown, Richmond, Colesberg and Middelburg (Cape Province). Learners are responsible for all costs involved and are therefore extremely well motivated and enthusiastic about the opportunity presented to them. It is especially inspiring to see how much effort has been made by this group of young people and their families, as well as by sponsors, to help them realise their dreams of qualifying as Social Auxiliary Workers.

The theoretical training aspect of the course is being being presented by Ms Netta Smit from the CEFA office in Upington. The practical side of the course will be mentored in conjunction with the offices of the Department of Social Development, ACVV, FAMSA, Child Welfare and Jogebed (NGO) under supervision of registered Social Workers.

CEFA in Upington already had a waiting list of prospective learners for the intake that took place in January 2012. After an article and advertisement about SAW training appeared in “Die Gemsbok”, the reaction CEFA received was overwhelming. Not all would-be learners can be accommodated at one time because there are only a limited number of workplaces available with Social Workers to provide mentorship in the Upington area. Furthermore, smaller classes better benefit the learners.

For any enquiries and interest in Social Auxiliary Work training by CEFA, Netta Smit can be contacted on 054 331 2974. For this training in other provinces please contact CEFA’s head office in Wellington at 021 873 3998.
