PROVINCIAL TRAINING UPDATE
Over the last three months groups of keen and dedicated men and women, mainly aged between 20 and 50, have been learning the skills and attributes needed to be Social Auxiliary Workers (SAWs). Dedicated, experienced CEFA trainers have been imparting the theories, standards, rules, knowledge and collective experience that these learners will need for them to make a worthwhile difference in the communities they serve.
CEFA's training medium language is English - and that is not a first or home language for many of our learners. For many, participating in group discussions, contributing ideas and thoughts, is a somewhat novel experience. Our Facilitators are therefore taking time and care to make sure that their learners fully understand what they are hearing; that they gain confidence in group discussions. Mentor interface, as always, is proving an essential component in the training. Some learners experience travel distance and costs difficulties; CEFA is proactively taking up these points with the relevant Departments of Social Welfare – and all other stakeholders. Learner stipends are proving to be one answer. CEFA is determined that solutions will be found to any problems; the country simply does not have enough SAWs. By their dedication and determination these groups of SAW learners are becoming torch bearers for a better future for us all – and an inspiration to the dedicated team training them.
