4. ACHIEVEMENTS
Ecumenical Engagement
SACC (South African Council of Churches)
As part of its anti-apartheid strategies of resistance and challenge, the SACC embarked on a decentralization drive in bringing its agenda closer to the people’s ministry. This strategy led to the establishment of the Regional Councils of Churches during the 1980’s.
1985-1991 - Responsible for the establishment of the West Coast Council of Churches and served as chairperson (1985-88) and Executive member (1985-91)
1986-1988 - Appointed as Regional Councils’ Coordinator responsible for the roll out of the national regional council policy and regional council development.
World Council of Churches
Member of the Planning Committee for the World Mission and Evangelism Conference responsible for the development and management of the Youth Conference in San Antonio, USA.
Engagement in the World Conference on “Sharing Life” developing a global resources sharing policy.
Co-responsible for the policy development on Climate Change and sustainable development of the World Council of Churches (CMWE).
Mandated by the SACC to the Pacific Conference of Churches involved in the policy formulation by the South on Climate Change.
Introduction of discussion paper at the European Consultation on Climate Change and sustainable development, Driebergen, Holland as part of Agenda 21 preparatory process.
