CEFA
NEWSLETTER – October 2011
INTERFACE – GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
Trevor Manuel’s timetable for the National Planning Commission indicates that his Vision 2030 statement is now close to being issued. Therefore, it is appropriate to look back at his initial Diagnostic Overview, in which he listed nine challenges. They included high unemployment, poor educational outcomes, a high disease burden and divided communities. The Minister also noted that South Africans have achieved much since 1994 (including a broadening of access to tertiary education, but that we still need to combine together in achieving more if we are to remain on track to provide a better life for all. As we have already noted, value-for-money returns – ones that will translate into economic growth and human capital development are needed. It is anticipated that Vision 2030 will provide a good blueprint upon which to go forward.
THE LOCAL SCENE
It is in the context of national growth that CEFA’s contribution through the training of Social Auxiliary Workers (SAWs) should be seen. This training provides a tertiary education outcome, of which the benefits include career path employment, workplace training, support in the combatting of disease – and a healing process towards mending divisions in communities.
Whilst CEFA has been happy to see the growing interest in what we are doing, with September seeing yet more website visitors than ever before – at 10 334, compared to 4 591 in August and 5 722 in July, there has been a distinct slowdown to 1 570 site visits in October. Of these October visitors 520 are people who visit the CEFA website often; “Social Auxiliary Work” is currently the most viewed page, followed by “Mentoring SAW”.
As advised last month, the CEFA Division of Teaching and Learning’s next Social Auxiliary Work training project for individual learners is still scheduled to begin on 17th January 2012. CEFA presents training all over the country, wherever there are groups of more than 30 learners who are interested in gaining the Social Auxiliary Worker FET qualification. Centralised venues will be utilised for the theoretical classroom teaching. CEFA has already received applications from interested prospective learners in many of the following regions. If you are living in one of these regions, we hope that you have applied. For your ease of reference we list them and their venues again:
Northern Cape: Upington
Limpopo: Malamulele
Eastern Cape: Port Elizabeth
Gauteng: Randfontein
Western Cape – Cape Metropole
Cape Winelands: Worcester
Southern Cape: George

THE WAY FORWARD
The exciting upward trend of the number of visitors to our website: www.cefa.co.za may have slowed down in October, but anticipated developments in November should make it well worth your while to keep in touch with us.
